WSS Division of DDC is proud to announce that your author, Robert
W. Babcock, is now a member of the Association of Shareware
Professionals. What does this mean to you? It means that we
subscribe to a code of standards for program quality, user
support and payment policy, and we will not release crippled
versions of our software.

+---+---+ MEMBER
This program is produced by a member of the Association of
Shareware Professionals (ASP). ASP wants to make sure that the
shareware principle works for you. If you are unable to resolve
a shareware-related problem with an ASP member by contacting the
member directly, ASP may be able to help. The ASP Ombudsman can
help you resolve a dispute or problem with an ASP member, but
does not provide technical support for members' products. Please
write to the ASP Ombudsman at 545 Grover Road, Muskegon, MI 49442
or send a CompuServe message via CompuServe Mail to ASP Ombudsman
70007,3536.
DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
differ on details -- some request registration while others
require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
using the software to an updated program with printed manual.
Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
specific group. For example, some authors require written
permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
Shareware.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
product, you don't pay for it.
DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT
Users of Wssindex must accept the following disclaimers of
warranty:
Unregistered versions of Wssindex are supplied as-is. The
author disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied,
including, without limitation, the warranties of
merchantability and of fitness for any purpose. The author
assumes no liability for damages, direct or consequential,
which may result from the use of unregistered versions of
Wssindex.
Registered versions of Wssindex are warranted to perform
substantially as documented for a period of 90 days from
your date of receipt. The media on which either the
complete or evaluation version of this software is provided
is warranted to be readable for 30 days. All other warran-
ties relating to this software, whether expressed or
implied, are disclaimed. Determination of the suitability
of this software for a particular purpose is the respon-
sibility of the user. In no event shall WSS Division of DDC
or Robert W. Babcock be liable for damages exceeding the
price paid to license this software.
Wssindex is a "shareware program" and a fully functional and
documented version (but with an opening commercial screen) is
provided at no charge to the user for evaluation. Feel free to
share it with your friends, but please do not give it away
altered or as part of another system. The essence of
"user-supported" software is to provide personal computer users
with quality software without high prices, and yet to provide an
incentive for programmers to continue to develop new products.
If you find Wssindex useful, and if you continue to use Wssindex
after a 60 day trial period, you must make a registration payment
to WSS Division of DDC. The registration fee to license one copy
for use on any one computer at any one time is $37.50 in the US
or Canada, $39.50 elsewhere. ($35 is the actual registration
fee, the balance is postage and handling.) You must treat this
software just like a book. An example is that this software may
be used by any number of people and may be freely moved from one
computer location to another, so long as there is no possibility
of it being used at one location while it's being used at
another. Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons
at the same time.
Commercial users of Wssindex must register and pay for their
copies of Wssindex within 60 days of first use or their license
is withdrawn. A site license fee schedule is included in the
main documentation file.
Anyone distributing Wssindex for any kind of remuneration is
requested to contact WSS Division of DDC at the address below so
that we can send you a copy of the latest release.
You are encouraged to pass a copy of Wssindex along to your
friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their
copy if they find that they can use it. All registered users
will receive a copy of the latest version of the Wssindex system.
SUPPORT POLICY
When you register Wssindex or Wssindex/Extended, you are also
purchasing a guarantee that software support will be available
for a minimum of 90 days. And you are purchasing a license to
use all future releases. (Wssindex has been on the market since
1985.) With a paid registration, you receive a copy of the
program without a "registration reminder screen", and you receive
a personal password which will disable this screen in future
releases obtained through other sources. Registrants may also
download upgrades from the WSS/DDC Tech Support BBS.

Answering questions
Fixing serious bugs
Repairing damaged databases (when possible)
We have never charged a fee for answering questions or database
repair. If a software upgrade is needed to solve a serious
problem, it will be provided for free at least during the 90 day
guaranteed support period. Fixes for minor problems, or any
problems after 90 days, are subject to normal upgrade prices (see
below).
Upgrade pricing is based on how the version number has changed.
If only the hundredths digit has changed, such as 5.10 to 5.13,
the upgrade may be obtained for only a postage fee ($2.50 US and
Canada, $4.50 elsewhere). If other digits of the version number
have changed, it indicates that the release includes significant
enhancements rather than just bug fixes. In this case the
upgrade cost is $5 plus postage.
